Frequently Asked Questions About 9mm

1. What 9mm firearms does ICB Firearms carry?

+

ICB Firearms carries a wide selection of 9mm handguns including semi-automatic pistols, revolvers, and AR pistols across compact, subcompact, and full-size configurations from well-regarded manufacturers. Options span everyday carry pistols, duty and range pistols, and competition-oriented models. Stop in or check online for current 9mm inventory across all available brands and configurations.

2. Why is 9mm the most popular handgun caliber?

+

9mm has become the most popular handgun caliber due to its practical balance of manageable recoil, high magazine capacity, widespread ammunition availability, and excellent performance with modern defensive hollow point loads. Compact 9mm pistols are easier to shoot accurately and recover quickly between shots compared to larger calibers, making them a strong choice for new shooters and experienced carriers alike. The caliber’s adoption by law enforcement and military forces worldwide has also driven extensive ammunition development and competitive pricing.

3. Do I need a Pistol Purchase Order to buy a 9mm handgun in Michigan?

+

Yes. Michigan requires a Pistol Purchase Order or a valid Concealed Pistol License to purchase any handgun, including 9mm pistols, from a licensed dealer. The PPO is obtained through your local law enforcement agency or through the Michigan State Police online system. All purchases also require ATF Form 4473 and a NICS background check. A current and valid Michigan CPL can serve in place of the PPO for eligible buyers.

4. What is the best 9mm pistol for concealed carry in Michigan?

+

Compact and subcompact 9mm pistols are the most popular concealed carry choice among Michigan CPL holders, offering a practical balance of capacity, shootability, and concealability. Striker-fired pistols with consistent trigger pulls are the dominant carry platform, though hammer-fired options with manual safeties appeal to shooters who prefer a traditional manual of arms. The best choice depends on your body type, clothing, carry position, and how the pistol fits your hand. The staff at ICB Firearms can help you find the right fit for your daily carry setup.

5. What is a 9mm AR pistol and who is it for?

+

A 9mm AR pistol is a pistol-format firearm built on the AR platform but chambered in 9mm instead of a traditional rifle caliber, often using the same magazines as your 9mm handguns. This allows for ammunition commonality across your collection while offering the ergonomics and modularity of the AR system in a compact, pistol-classified package. 9mm AR pistols are popular for home defense and range use, particularly when paired with a suppressor for reduced noise. All purchases require a standard background check, and buyers must meet federal and Michigan eligibility requirements.

6. What is the best 9mm ammunition for home defense?

+

Quality 9mm hollow point ammunition from reputable manufacturers is the standard recommendation for home defense, offering reliable expansion and penetration depth across a wide range of compact and full-size pistols. The most important factor is that your chosen pistol feeds your defensive ammunition reliably, so testing your selected load at the range before trusting it for home defense is always recommended. The staff at ICB Firearms can point you toward proven 9mm defensive loads in current stock.

7. Should I add a red dot to my 9mm pistol?

+

A pistol-mounted red dot offers real performance benefits for many shooters, including faster target acquisition, a single focal plane aiming reference, and improved accuracy at extended distances compared to traditional iron sights. Many modern 9mm pistols come optics-ready from the factory or can be fitted with an aftermarket slide that accepts a red dot. The adjustment period requires dedicated range time, but most shooters find measurable improvement once they adapt. The staff at ICB Firearms can help you determine if a red dot is a good fit for your specific 9mm handgun.

8. Do I need a Concealed Pistol License to carry a 9mm in Michigan?

+

Yes. Michigan requires a valid Concealed Pistol License to carry a concealed 9mm handgun. Michigan does not have constitutional carry. To obtain a CPL, you must be at least 21, meet all state and federal eligibility requirements, complete a state-approved firearms safety training course, and submit your application through your county clerk. Open carry of a 9mm handgun is generally permitted for eligible residents in most Michigan locations, subject to prohibited zone restrictions under state law.
