The HM Defense Defender M5 (HM15FMB556) is a 5.56x45mm NATO semi-automatic rifle built around HM Defense's HM MonoBloc barrel system. The 16-inch barrel is constructed from 4150 chromoly steel, is match grade, and features an integral machined gas block. The barrel is triple honed and button rifled.

The Defender M5 includes a 10.37-inch free-float handguard with a Picatinny rail top and compatibility with the Magpul M-LOK mounting system. The rifle ships with a 30+1 capacity and is finished in a black hard coat anodized metal finish. Controls are configured for right-hand operation.
